Doctrine/Beliefs

We are Reformed in our theology, meaning that we hold very strongly to the sovereignty of God and the Five Solas of the Reformation:

*Sola Scriptura: The Scriptures Alone

*Sola Gratia: Grace Alone

*Sola Fide: Faith Alone

*Solus Christus: Christ Alone

*Soli Deo Gloria: For the Glory of God Alone

If you piece all of these together, we believe that the Scriptures alone teach that we are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone for the glory of God alone. While the Bible is our sole guide for faith and practice, we also utilize the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith with few exceptions when it comes to man-originated statements of faith/beliefs.

OUR BELIEFS

The Scriptures

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbally inspired Word of God, the divine and final authority for Christian faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, the complete revelation of God’s will for the salvation of men, infallible, and God-breathed.

The Triune God of the Bible

We believe in one Triune God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who are co-eternal in being, co-eternal in nature, and co-equal in power and glory.

Jesus Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, became man without ceasing to be God in order to reveal God and redeem sinful man. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through his life, death, and resurrection. The Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice, and our justification is made sure by His literal and physical resurrection from the dead. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, where He is exalted at the right hand of God, and where He acts as our High Priest, our representative, our intercessor, and our advocate. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ is coming again to judge the living and the dead.

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He is the Third Person of the Trinity who convicts, regenerates, indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers believers for the Christian Life.

The Depravity of Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God, but through Adam’s sin, a sinful nature was imputed to all men, and all men became separated from God. Man is totally depraved and unable to save himself. Only through the regeneration of the Holy Spirit can man attain salvation and be restored in his relationship with God.

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gift of God achieved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection. Those means are the only grounds for justification and salvation for those who place their faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.

The Church

We believe that the church is composed of those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, having been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. We believe in the local church which is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:27; 18:22; 20:17; 1 Timothy 3:1-3; Titus 1:5-11). We believe in the autonomy of the local church. The Church is marked by expository preaching of the Scriptures and the practice of the two sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism.
