The Planting of Christ Alone Church is a work of God that, like a puzzle, has had multiple pieces coming together across many years. The Gathering Church of Ashe in West Jefferson, NC has been praying and preparing to plant for many years. Praying for God to raise up leadership and a pastor specifically with a call to plant in the Wilkesboro area. Preparing the process in which to plant, including diligently saving for this endeavor.

During this same time, God brought Tim and Cindy Bullington to Wilkesboro, NC with a burden to plant a Reformed Baptist Church here. Through the struggle of covid and a false start the Bullingtons were discouraged and frustrated as the perfect storm seemed to be snuffing out any hope of planting a church. In March of 2022, a mutual friend of Tim Bullington and Scott Day of the Gathering Church named Mark Morris introduced them to each other. Almost immediately God revealed the likenmindedness of both Scott and Tim to embark on such an endeavor. Through many conversations, prayers, planning, the help of The Gathering Church and its leadership and God’s working in the hearts of a small group of people with the desire to see a new work started, Christ Alone became a reality. 

Church planting is a work of God in and through His Church to make disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and establish them as independent churches for the glory of God and the advancement of the gospel. God uses many people surrendered to Him to accomplish His purposes for His glory. As the Apostle Paul put it to the Corinthian church:  

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.  He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.” 1 Corinthians 3:6-9
